Tom Lea was grateful that he was born on the border where two nations and two peoples meet. In his book “A Picture Gallery” (Little Brown and Company, 1968), he wrote that “Mexico and Mexicans, the flavor of the Spanish language, the manners and customs and attitudes of the people, the particular character and color and vitality that distinguishes their land, seem to be a fairly constant and natural and enlivening part of my life.”
